Ride Story — Kilometer by Kilometer
### Stage I: Departure from Biskupiec and Warm-Up (km 0 – 35.2)
We kick off in Biskupiec. The opening kilometers serve as a pure aerobic warm-up. The route towards Dźwierzuty is a classic Warmian mix: asphalt transitioning seamlessly into firm, packed gravel. The Future Shock system on the Diverge smoothed out road chatter effortlessly, allowing me to maintain a steady cadence around 90 rpm while heart rate remained tucked safely in Zone 2 endurance.
Stage II: The Crux Climb around Dźwierzuty — A Test of Grit (km 35.2 – 36.2)
At kilometer 35, the real fun begins. The route's crux climb, while short (0.3 km), delivers a punch. When the gradient kicked up to 9%, it was time to shift to the larger cogs in the rear and dig into the pedals. A brief, high-wattage effort that immediately elevated the breathing rate. The Diverge climbed the wall without skipping a beat.
Stage III: Cresting the High Point at 180 m a.s.l. (km 36.1)
Reaching 180 m above sea level offers a chance for a deep swig from the bidon and a glance at the head unit. The panoramic vista over the Dźwierzuty countryside rewards the climbing effort. Here, you feel the tranquil silence of Warmia's landscape, letting you forget wattage numbers for a moment and soak in the present.
Stage IV: Dynamic Descent and the Return Leg
Having conquered the high point, it was time for some speed. A quick 0.4 km descent allowed the bike to hit 41.6 km/h. On such a fast stretch dropping 13 vertical meters, the gravel flow is unbeatable: precise hydraulic disc braking and planted steering provide total confidence through the sweeping turns. The return loop passing through Szczytno back to Biskupiec was a steady endurance roll to seal the 100 km mark.
Nature, Landscapes, and Highlights Along the Way
Warmia is a land of pristine lakes, rolling meadows, and dense woodland. This route cuts through the scenic countryside surrounding Biskupiec and Dźwierzuty, where lush green canopies frame crystal-clear skies. Every sector brings a renewed connection with wild, untouched landscapes.
Telemetry and Power Data Analysis
Maintaining an average speed of 23 km/h over 100 km is a solid endurance benchmark on mixed gravel. Burning over 2,500 kcal reflects a serious training stimulus. Cadence hovered consistently between 88 and 92 rpm, confirming balanced pacing across Zone 2 and Zone 3.
Coffee & Refuel Spots
Szczytno (km 54.2) serves as the ideal halfway checkpoint. You will find welcoming local cafes serving excellent espresso and fresh pastries — an essential ritual to replenish glycogen stores before heading into the second half of the loop.
Practical Tips and Bike Setup
1. Tires & Pressure: 42 mm tires set to 2.2 bar front and 2.4 bar rear provide the ultimate balance between tarmac speed and off-road grip.
2. Gearing: A 1x11 or 2x setup with an 11-42T cassette is plenty for Warmian rollers and steep kickers.
3. Hydration Strategy: Drink regularly; over four hours in the saddle requires systematic fluid and electrolyte intake.
4. Navigation: Keep a GPS computer mounted on the handlebar, as forest intersections can be tricky to navigate on sight.
